Accept donations from the US
America is a country with a rich history of philanthropy. While J.D. Rockefeller, Bill Gates and MacKenzie Scott may be some of the most recognizable donor names, over half of Americans give to charity each year.
US donors may enjoy tax benefits for their charitable giving and, while this is not their motivation for donating, these tax benefits are a factor in philanthropic decisions – especially for major and planned gifts. The ability to offer American donors a tax benefit increases your potential to raise significant money in the US with the right approach.
However, operating a charitable entity in the US requires legal and regulatory expertise, as well as administrative time and resources—time and resources you need for engaging your donors.
The Chapel & York US Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization and can help you offer tax benefits to donors in America. A fund with our US Foundation provides you with a presence in the country and allows you to effectively fundraise without having to set up a legal entity.
Immediately fundraise in the US without worrying about the regulatory, banking, donation processing, or technical issues as Chapel & York does it all for you
Joining the US Foundation
In evaluating your completed application and conducting our due diligence, Chapel & York will review submitted documentation to ensure your organisation is able to receive grants/payments from the US Foundation.
In this process, Chapel & York makes no judgements as to the value of the work you do or the capacity of your organisation to do it. Once we are satisfied your application meets the criteria, the application is passed to the Foundation Executive Director to share with the board your desire to set up a fund.
In the event of your application being rejected, you will be refunded the membership fee.

US citizens (and other individuals subject to US income tax) who pay tax in the UK [or UK taxpayers resident in the US], can receive tax benefits in both the UK and US for the same donation. This is achieved when the donation is made to a UK charity (and thus eligible for UK Gift Aid and tax-relief) whose shares are owned by a US nonprofit and which has elected to be a ‘disregarded entity’ under US law. For UK purposes, the charity is a just a UK charity. If the donation is eligible for Gift Aid and tax-relief, it can be applied for. For US tax purposes the UK charity doesn’t exist and donations to it are as if made to the US nonprofit parent. The donor can take a US tax deduction for the donation to the extent allowed by US law. Chapel & York’s US and UK Foundations are so linked and can offer your donors these benefits.
Fiscal sponsorship is an Agreement between a US 501c3 and a non-US entity sometimes required by US institutional funders and foundations in order to receive grants from them. The US 501c3 receives the grant and regrants it to the foreign organisation. Upon request, the Chapel & York US Foundation is able to provide a fiscal sponsorship agreement which details the roles and responsibilities of the funder, US Foundation and grant recipient. This service is included as a benefit to fundholders with Named Funds and is available for a fee to fundholders with Affiliate and 90-Day Temporary Funds.
