Bronte Surf Life Saving Club

Description

Like all surf clubs, our primary mission is to provide voluntary life saving services. Our volunteers patrol Bronte Beach every weekend and public holiday for seven months, from the first weekend of the
September school holidays until ANZAC day. We work closely with, and alongside, the Waverley Council lifeguards, many of whom started out as Bronte Nippers.
Volunteer lifesavers are required to undertake training to achieve the minimum qualification of Surf Rescue
Certificate or Bronze Medallion and this is offered by the Club several times per year and delivered by a training team of over 30 volunteers. These ‘Active’ members are required to meet and maintain
minimum skill levels and training requirements each season. To fulfill this requirement, Bronte SLSC volunteer trainers educate and requalify over 500
active surf lifesavers each season.
Our members are supported in remaining fit and rescue ready with a comprehensive training program including swimming, board paddling and running sessions offered by the Club each week, free of charge with all equipment supplied.  Volunteers also have the
opportunity to use the Club gymnasium for minimal cost. There are also a number of other membership forms
and categories.  Volunteering, community and
education are at our heart.
Bronte’s Nippers program, delivered by Club volunteers, teaches over 800 children aged 5+ - along with their parents - water safety skills for life. Along with water skills, our older Nippers, and Cadets (13
18 years) learn vital first aid skills including CPR.  We currently have over 150 Cadet lifesavers - that’s 150 teenagers getting out of bed early on weekends to volunteer in their community!
