The Förderverein Girassol e.V. is a non-profit support association dedicated to strengthening the Girassol Education and Social Center in São Paulo, Brazil. The organization works to provide educational access and holistic development opportunities for children and young people from communities living in the favelas of São Paulo, where poverty, limited public services, and systemic inequality often restrict pathways to a stable future.
Our purpose is to create an inclusive and safe learning environment that promotes academic growth, emotional development, and practical life skills. Inspired by Montessori principles, Girassol fosters autonomy, creativity, cultural identity, and self-confidence. Many of the children supported face challenges such as food insecurity, exposure to violence, unstable family conditions, and limited access to quality education. By providing consistent schooling, supportive social care, and vocational training, the organization helps break cycles of disadvantage and encourages long-term empowerment.
The Förderverein Girassol e.V. raises awareness, builds partnerships, and coordinates fundraising efforts in Europe to ensure continuity and stability for the Center’s programs. Our mission is not only to assist each child individually, but to strengthen entire families and communities by opening sustainable pathways to education, employment, and dignified participation in society.
