At Historic Environment Scotland (Historic Scotland), our purpose is to investigate, care for, and promote Scotland’s
historic environment for the benefit of people and communities everywhere. We want the historic environment to make a real difference to people’s lives – to our health, to our economy, to our culture, to our environment.
We do this by caring for over 330 sites of historic significance across Scotland from ancient standing stones, to magnificent castles and the collections and archives that tell the story of 5000 years of Scotland's people and places.  We drive development of the skills needed to keep out heritage safe, reach out to schools and communities, carry out research, make historic sites accessible, protect them,  and welcome the world.
